Srirangapatna, an island covered by river Kaveri, derives its name from Ranganathaswamy temple. This temple has the famous sleeping statue of Lord Ranganatha, which is very famous among the locals and visiting foreign tourists however, very few Indian tourists visit this place. Although very close to Mysore, the town is in Mandya district with its own rich heritage and culture. There is a dam build on the river, known by Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS), which holds the famous botanical park, Brindavan Garden. Besides these there are many more tourist attractions which highlight a glimpse of Indian history.
